The recent launch of an oxygen production plant in Nairobi's Tatu City area, funded by the USA and Finland, is expected to reduce the cost of oxygen in public hospitals across Kenya and neighboring countries by 50% starting May 2025. According to Dr.zulfiqar wali Chief Executive Officer Hewa Tele Limited, the plant will cut reliance on costly imported liquid oxygen, currently priced at Ksh 280 per cubic meter, aiming to lower it to Ksh 100. This initiative, costing Ksh 3 billion, will increase local oxygen supply, reduce child mortality, and potentially provide surplus for export to Uganda and Tanzania, with plans for capacity expansion within three years.
