In May 2025, the cost of medical oxygen in public hospitals in Kenya and neighboring countries is expected to decrease by 50%, following the launch of an oxygen production plant in Tatu City, Nairobi. Funded by the United States and Finland, the project was announced by Bernard, its founder. The plant, costing Ksh 3 billion, will significantly reduce the importation costs of oxygen, which are currently high due to limited local production. This initiative is a major step towards enhancing healthcare facilities' capacity to provide essential care, aiding Kenya's progress towards universal health coverage. The plant will utilize a new air separation unit technology, which produces liquid oxygen, vastly increasing production capacity.
